The British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (Becta) is responsible for furthering the development of information communication technologies (ICT) within education. As part of its work Becta is responsible for evaluating a number for small local area network (LAN) solutions offering Internet access for use in schools. The Image Workshop has been commissioned to supply a suite of testing software and systems to evaluate the quality and performance of the Internet access and services offered by the supplied systems.
Using a combination of bespoke benchmarking software and structured testing procedures, The Image Workshop has created a system to allow Becta to gather a vast range of performance figures and subjective test data relating to the quality of service offered by the systems under evaluation.
The tests range from basic communications performance to support for different Internet media and applications. Gathered data can be visualised on the fly using a number of analysis techniques presented as standard graphs, tables, and summaries suitable for inclusion in Becta's evaluation reports.
During the initial testing period The Image Workshop provided a high level of support to Becta's in-house team of test technicians, and continued to tailor the testing systems as the project progressed to ensure the integrity of the final evaluation results.
